Lithium is not a solution!
Resistance against mining in Serbia and Chile

Invitation to the event on Monday, 14.11.22, 19:00 to 21:00 hrs.
Place: Versammlungsraum 2nd floor, MehringHof, Gneisenaustr. 2a, 10961 Berlin

In view of the climate crisis, a mobility turnaround is needed. But instead of massively expanding public transport and making it fairer and more inclusive, many people still rely on replacing the combustion engine car with electric cars. Tesla has built the Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg and VW wants to build the Trinity plant in Wolfsburg. The raw materials, including lithium for the car batteries, are to be imported. But there is resistance in the (potential) mining areas!
In the event, Milica from Extinction Rebellion Serbia reports on the mass protests against Rio Tinto's lithium mine in the Jadar River Valley. At the beginning of 2022, 120,000 people across Serbia had blocked roads and highways and forced the government to give in for the time being.
But Europe continues to put pressure on the Serbian government and is already importing a lot of lithium, especially from northern Chile. Juan from the film project Formando Rutas shows what ecological and social impacts this has and what demands there are against it.
Finally, Milica, Juan and a person from Sand im Getriebe discuss what we can learn from the different struggles. The audience is invited to join in the discussion about "green" illusory solutions, alternatives and protest possibilities.
